Why Turtles?

Found around the world in rivers, deserts, jungles, and our own backyards, it’s easy to assume tortoises and freshwater turtles will always be here. But the very traits that once helped them survive render them vulnerable to extinction today.

Protecting the world’s most endangered tortoises and freshwater turtles

We All Play a Role.

To save turtles, we all play a role. Every day, tortoises and freshwater turtles around the globe face pressing threats. Your support equips us to support species where and how they need us most.

Turtles are ancient and remarkable creatures who deserve a champion. When you stand with us, you help ensure their continued survival. Together, we can create a world with zero turtle extinctions.

Webinar – Terrapin Tracks: Conservation in Action in Northeast Florida

Join us for this free webinar on Wednesday, December 17th, 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM!

We’ll share an inside look at the volunteer-driven conservation efforts of Turtle Survival Alliance’s Team Terrapin, protecting Carolina Diamondback Terrapins (Malaclemys terrapin centrata) on the barrier islands of Northeast Florida.

This webinar explores how trained volunteers conduct hands-on field science—searching for terrapin crawls, locating and GPS-marking nests, studying incubation, hatching, and trends in nest success, tracking hatchling dispersal into the ecosystem, and working with Jacksonville University to implement a terrapin rehabilitation program.

You’ll discover how Team Terrapin’s work provides essential data and on-the-ground protection for one of the Southeast’s most iconic coastal turtles, and how community science is making a measurable impact on their future.

A live Q&A with our featured guest will follow, giving you the chance to ask questions and learn more about the work firsthand!

Featuring: Tabitha Hootman, Project Leader, Team Terrapin, Turtle Survival Alliance / Jacksonville University

Host: Jordan Gray, External Relations Manager, Turtle Survival Alliance
