Each year from Earth Day through World Turtle Day®—May 23rd—we invite you to join us for a month-long celebration of the world’s turtles and tortoises, and the people who protect them.
During Turtle Month we celebrate the diversity, beauty, and preservation of the 350+ living species of turtles, tortoises, sea turtles, and terrapins found on Earth.
Together we will create a brighter future for turtles and tortoises!

Celebrating Turtles
World Turtle Day®
Turtle Month begins on Earth Day, April 22, and concludes on World Turtle Day® on May 23.
World Turtle Day® was begun by American Tortoise Rescue, a nonprofit organization established in 1990 for the protection of all species of tortoise and turtle. The day was created as a yearly observance to help people celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world.
