Why Turtles?

Found around the world in rivers, deserts, jungles, and our own backyards, it’s easy to assume tortoises and freshwater turtles will always be here. But the very traits that once helped them survive render them vulnerable to extinction today.

Our Programs

Protecting the world’s most endangered tortoises and freshwater turtles

We All Play a Role.

To save turtles, we all play a role. Every day, tortoises and freshwater turtles around the globe face pressing threats. Your support equips us to support species where and how they need us most.

Turtles are ancient and remarkable creatures who deserve a champion. When you stand with us, you help ensure their continued survival. Together, we can create a world with zero turtle extinctions.

Webinar: From Data to Action: Advancing Turtle Conservation Across Latin America and the Caribbean

From the rivers of Colombia to the jungles of Belize and the mountains of Mexico, join us on May 14th at 11:00 AM with five conservation leaders as they explore the remarkable diversity of turtle and tortoise species across Latin America and the Caribbean. This webinar will highlight both some of the region’s most understudied and most threatened species, showcasing how genetics, field research, population monitoring, conservation breeding, and community-based conservation programs are helping to fill critical knowledge gaps and drive recovery efforts across diverse landscapes. A live Q&A with our panelists will follow, offering the opportunity to ask questions and gain firsthand insight into their work in the field.

Featuring:

  • Alejandra Monsiváis, Executive Director, Estudiantes Conservando la Naturaleza
  • Natalia Gallego-GarcĂa, Director of Conservation Genetics, Turtle Survival Alliance
  • Marjorie PinzĂłn Arias, Lead Turtle Researcher, Wildlife Conservation Society Colombia
