Pearson is a researcher and turtle ecologist with field experience on 5 continents and in over 20 countries. His primary interests include natural and life history studies, movement ecology, and community engagement. He is a firm advocate for applied conservation and completed a masters thesis dedicated to refining the head-starting formula for Mojave Desert Tortoises. Pearson grew up in both Eastern Europe and the USA, but has since used his love for travel, people, and new experiences to spend time living and working in West Africa and South America. He currently leads a turtle research program in El Salvador and has helped create a series of private and community-protected areas on which to carry out research and conserve turtles in Colombia. Pearson is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group.
