On Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 PM, the Charleston Library Society, in partnership with Buxton Books, will host internationally celebrated naturalist and author Sy Montgomery and award-winning wildlife artist Matt Patterson for the celebration of their newest collaboration, The True and Lucky Life of a Turtle.
Montgomery and Patterson will share the inspiration behind the book, reflect on their long-standing fascination with turtles, and discuss how storytelling and art can inspire the next generation of conservationists.
The evening will also highlight several of their other acclaimed works—including The Book of Turtles and Of Time and Turtles—which engage readers with the wonder of wildlife and the urgent importance of protecting the more than 350 turtle species across the globe.
About the Book
In this captivating new book, Montgomery and Patterson recount the true story of a remarkable snapping turtle named Fire Chief. Tracing his journey from a vulnerable hatchling to a decades-old survivor, his life becomes intertwined with the humans who ultimately help save him.
