Why Turtles?

Found around the world in rivers, deserts, jungles, and our own backyards, it’s easy to assume tortoises and freshwater turtles will always be here. But the very traits that once helped them survive render them vulnerable to extinction today.

Our Programs

Protecting the world’s most endangered tortoises and freshwater turtles

We All Play a Role.

To save turtles, we all play a role. Every day, tortoises and freshwater turtles around the globe face pressing threats. Your support equips us to support species where and how they need us most.

Turtles are ancient and remarkable creatures who deserve a champion. When you stand with us, you help ensure their continued survival. Together, we can create a world with zero turtle extinctions.

News & Events

Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE) 2026

Join us at this year’s Southeastern Wildlife Exposition! We will be exhibiting all three days, Friday, February 13, through Sunday, February 15, in Marion Square in downtown Charleston, SC.

Stop by our booth to see live ambassador turtles representing endangered species that we support through conservation efforts. Keepers from our Turtle Survival Center will be handling the turtles and sharing insights into their daily work caring for some of the world’s most endangered species, right here in the Lowcountry. Join us and learn more about upcoming local events in Charleston that support our worldwide conservation efforts.

We’ll have plenty for kids to enjoy, including coloring pages and educational materials, plus a variety of turtle-themed swag for sale, with 100% of proceeds supporting conservation. If you care about protecting turtles locally and around the world, come meet our team and learn how you can make an impact.

For the first time this year, we’ll be hosting demonstrations in Marion Square daily at 3:30 PM! Weather permitting, we’ll be showcasing more live turtles, ranging in size from the palm-sized Spotted Turtle, to the 75-pound Alligator Snapping Turtle. We’ll also share how you can incorporate practices to help turtles in your own backyard, such as helping a turtle across a road.

Looking for add-on experiences? Join us at the Birds of a Feather Ladies Brunch Benefit on Valentine’s Day! Learn more on our event page.

We can’t wait to see you there!
