Why Turtles?

Found around the world in rivers, deserts, jungles, and our own backyards, it’s easy to assume tortoises and freshwater turtles will always be here. But the very traits that once helped them survive render them vulnerable to extinction today.

Protecting the world’s most endangered tortoises and freshwater turtles

We All Play a Role.

To save turtles, we all play a role. Every day, tortoises and freshwater turtles around the globe face pressing threats. Your support equips us to support species where and how they need us most.

Turtles are ancient and remarkable creatures who deserve a champion. When you stand with us, you help ensure their continued survival. Together, we can create a world with zero turtle extinctions.

100th Indochinese Box Turtle Hatches at TSC

  • September 19, 2024

The 100th Indochinese Box Turtle (Cuora galbinifrons) hatched at the Turtle Survival Center this week!

We first started producing hatchlings of this critically endangered species in 2016. Building a genetically diverse assurance colony of this species preserves its existence. This species, and many others at the TSC, have had their populations decimated by the pet trade, leaving few left in the wild. The 100th turtle of this species marks an unprecedented milestone for producing this species in captivity and provides a ray of hope for the future of their survival.

We look forward to many more hatchlings of several critically endangered species being produced at the TSC for years to come!
