2020 CARES Act

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) provides more than $2 trillion in relief funds to support the U.S. economy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The CARES Act also includes provisions that provide additional tax relief for charitable giving in the 2020 tax year, including a $300 “above-the-line” deduction for those who do not itemize deductions. This adjustment is available for cash gifts to public charities and is limited to $300 per taxpayer ($600 for a married couple). For those who do itemize their deductions, the CARES Act allows for cash contributions to qualified charities to be deducted up to 100% of adjusted gross income for the 2020 tax year. Consult your financial advisor to find out of these changes and other provisions apply to you.
